From
the beginning of October to the end of March there are many tasks
to complete in order that our sheep can survive the winter. In
autumn, all sheep get vaccinations and oral doses to protect
them from diseases the coming winter. The winter is cold and
life in the mountains is tough for the sheep. They get hungry,
because there is very little grass and heather left to feed them.
During these months, John Kissane walks up the mountains every
day to bring his sheep extra feed. Lambs are born in the spring.
Mountain sheep do not need help to birth; they can stay in
the hills where they feel at home. John Kissane does regular
checks from day break until dark, to ensure all is well. |
